Sivasankar received iPhone from Unitac, reveals ED
Kochi: M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, has also received an iPhone from Unitac. It is learned that this iPhone is one among the five iPhones distributed by Unitac apart from the commission amount to obtain the construction tender of Life Mission Project in Wadakanchery.
Sivasankar, the 5th accused in the money laundering case, was using this iPhone worth Rs 1 lakh.
The ED found that Sivasankar’s iPhone was distributed by Unitac after obtaining his statement.
The IAS officer has handed over IMEI numbers of his two phones to ED. After examining the IMEI numbers, ED identified that one among the IMEI numbers was mentioned in the details of the iPhones which Unitac submitted in the court. As per the details, one phone costs Rs 1 lakh. Unitac has submitted the invoices of 6 iPhones in the High Court.
Sivasankar’s involvement in Life Mission Project also came to light. The probe team will interrogate him in the cases related to this.
The people who received iPhone through Swapna Suresh under the Life Mission housing project are already under the scanner of the investigation team appointed to probe the Life Mission project scam.
At present, Sivasankar is in the custody of Enforcement Directorate as part of the probe into money laundering case relating to the gold smuggling.
Earlier, Unitac owner Santhosh Eapen stated that an iPhone was also gifted to opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. This statement in the affidavit submitted before the court triggered a controversy. But later he changed his statement and revealed that Swapna had borrowed a phone from him to be given to Chennithala.
