Kochi: Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's (Economic Offences) Court on Monday granted bail to M Sivasankar, an accused in gold smuggling case and former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, in the case registered by Customs on Monday. The Kerala High Court also granted him bail in the money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate.

As the charge sheet in the Customs case was not submitted after 60 days, he was eligible for default bail.

Though he obtained bail in these two cases, he won’t be able to come out of jail as there are others cases registered against him by that including NIA.

Sivasankar was arrested by Customs on November 24. The procedure to prepapre charge sheet has only begun. After the interrogation of Rabins K Hameed, another accused in the case who has international links, all accused will be sent show cause notice.

After obtaining replies to these notice, charge sheet will be submitted. It will take at least three months to complete the procedures.
