Situation in Chengannur still critical; no accurate statistics available
Alappuzha: Though the flood havoc in Kerala has been relieved to some extent, the situation in Chengannur remains unchanged. As per reports, hundreds of people are still trapped in various locations there.
People are trapped at remote places where rescuers cannot reach. They lack even basic requirements including food and water. The rescue operations using helicopter are continuing. The authorities give priority to providing food urgently to those who got trapped in remote locations.
As the flood is receding, large boats cannot be launched. Small boats are used for rescue operations in Pandanadu and other places. However, only a few such boats are available there. Actions to bring more boats from other places have been taken.
The rescue operations have been adversely affected due to unavailability of accurate number of people trapped in various places. Meanwhile, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss the relief and rehabilitation activities.
