SHRC registers case after patient dies without receiving treatment in Aluva
Aluva: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) registered a case after a patient died without receiving timely medical care.
The patient breathed his last inside an ambulance in front of the District Government Hospital here on Monday.
SHRC chairman Justice Antony Dominic directed the Health department director to investigate the matter and submit a report within three weeks.
The deceased was identified as Paravur native Vijayan. He was working as a security guard at a flat in Pulinchuvadu here. Vijayan was taken to the hospital after suffering from severe fever. However, he died inside the ambulance as hospital authorities delayed treatment.
People including the ambulance driver alleged that the hospital staff neglected the patient for more than an hour. Following this, Vijayan’s condition worsened and he died inside the ambulance.
Meanwhile, the hospital staff responded that they only took time to take safety precautions including PPE kits as per COVID protocol.
Ernakulam district Collector S. Suhas has sought a report from the district medical officer over the incident.
