Pandanad: After losing power in Chennithala and Kodamthuruth panchayats of Alappuzha, BJP has now lost power in Pandanad panchayat. It was the only local body in the district remaining with the national party.
This comes as a shocker for BJP as the local body president Asha V Nair not only resigned from the president post, but also quit the party.
Recently, the vice-president of the panchayat was ousted from the administration through the non-confidence motion brought by CPM. This development comes at a time when a poll to this post is around the corner.
In the 13-member panchayat, BJP had six seats, CPM five seats and Congress two.
With the new development, BJP and CPM will have 5 seats each in the presidential poll slated for next month.
It is widely speculated that Asha will join CPM. The stance of Congress will turn crucial for both CPM and BJP.
