shashi tharoor cardinal mar george allechery
Kochi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday visited Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. Tharoor, who met the cardinal at the church headquarters Mount St Thomas in Kakkanad here, claimed that the visit was “personal.” Later today, he will attend an event at the Angamaly Morning Star College.
Tharoor has been meeting religious and caste organisation leaders for the past few weeks, along with attending public events. His programmes in Kerala, which started with Malabar Tour, have captured the attention of both party members and the public.
On the protest against the Vizhinjam seaport, Tharoor said that the protesters must not be adamant about stalling the construction works. He added that he thought the government would consider the demands of fisherfolks and it is sad that this has not happened.

“It is unfair to brand protesters as anti-development. They saved the lives of 65,000 people during the 2018 floods. They have done so much for us. And what did for them? Both parties must not take a hardline stance on the matter,” he said.
On the invitation of PC Chacko to the Nationalist Congress Party, an LDF ally in Kerala and UPA ally in the centre, Tharoor said there had been no discussion about it. “He invited me through media. We have not discussed anything,” he said.
