Shaji’s disproportionate assets case: Vigilance team to visit Karnataka

Kozhikode: The Vigilance team that is investigating the disproportionate assets case against K M Shaji will be proceeding to Karnataka to seek more information. Though Shaji was called upon several times for questioning, the Vigilance found that there are discrepancies in his statement. K M Shaji had said that his main source of income was through farming and the major part of his income was from ginger cultivation.

The Vigilance decided to go to Karnataka to seek more details on his income source. The Vigilance will go ahead with the formalities in the coming days to find out if Shaji deals only with farming or is involved in any other land deals.

The Vigilance has booked a case against K M Shaji for amassing disproportionate wealth. The Vigilance had interrogated him for over 6 hours and Shaji had produced receipts of the money seized from his house in Kannur which he claimed to have received as donation from the public to carry out election related campaigning. But the vigilance feels it was fake receipts and doubts his income source.

A preliminary investigation was initiated in November after the vigilance found illegal assets in Shaji’s name. The vigilance booked a case against him and his house too was raided by the vigilance.
