Kochi: Swapna Suresh, the key accused in the gold smuggling case, said that Shaj Kiran mentally tortured her and asked to withdraw the confidential statement given before the court. Her remark came soon after Kerala High Court rejected her anticipatory bail plea. However, she said that Kiran was her close friend and he came to the house upon her request.

"It was Sivasankar who introduced Shaj to me. He also warned me two days ago that Sarith would be taken away. He informed me that Sarith would be released within 45 minutes after he was taken away from his house by Vigilance," she said. She also claimed that Shaj Kiran directed her to visit Nikesh Kumar, who is a close ally of Pinarayi Vijayan.

"He told me that Nikesh wanted the phone I had in my possession. He also promised that every case will be dealt with if I do as they say," she said. She alleged that Shaj had mentally tortured her by telling her that what she had done was wrong. He told me that he was going to visit 'No 1'. Every detail of these conversations is recorded and is in the custody of my lawyer. This will be released soon, she added.

She said that she applied for an anticipatory bail plea in fear that the state government will torture her in custody.
