Shahla’s death: SFI-KSU protest marches turn violent
Kalpetta: The death of a Class V girl Shahla Sherin due to snakebite inside classroom triggered strong protest across the state since Thursday. Student outfits including SFI, KSU, MSF, ABVP and AYSF led protest marches towards the collectorate here on Friday. Clashes erupted between activists and police during the protest led by SFI and KSU.
Activists, including girls took part in the protest marches. As only limited police force were present at the collectorate, the SFI activists entered the compound.
SFI activists arrived here following the protest march led by DYFI activists.
Police forcefully evicted the activists from Deputy District Education Officer’s office.
SFI has called off the protest after Deputy District Education officer assured that the school PTA will be dismissed.
KSU activists marched towards the collectorate following the SFI protest march. KSU activists staged a protest in front of the DDE office.
Shahla Sherin, a fifth standard student, died after being bitten by a snake inside her classroom on Wednesday. It is alleged that the student died as proper medical care was not given due to the negligence of teachers.
