Kochi: During the interrogation relating to the gold smuggling quotation case, accused Muhammed Shafeeq disowned key suspect Arjun Aayanki. Shafeeq revealed that those who handed over the gold said that Arjun would reach Karipur airport and he talked to Arjun for about 25 times regarding this matter.
Shafeeq and Arjun are being interrogated jointly from Wednesday. Arjun denied Shafeeq's allegation that the gold was smuggled for himself. Arjun told Customs during the interrogation that he reached the airport along with his friend Rameez.
Rameez had lent Rs 15,000 to a person while in Dubai and had come to the airport to collect the money from the person who is reaching from Dubai. Arjun was aware that Shafeeq has brought some expensive banned items and would get Rs 45,000 for this.
However, the probe team found out that Arjun was lying and that he contacted Shafeeq over phone many times. The WhatsAapp chat and phone call details show that Arjun was the mastermind behind all smuggling activities.
The Customs revealed this in a written document submitted in the court. Currently, Muhammed Shafeeq is named first accused in the case and Arjun Aayanki is the second accused. Arjun was summoned for interrogation on the basis of the statement of Shafeeq.
Meanwhile, former DYFI Chembilode area secretary C Sajesh appeared for interrogation based on the statement of Arjun Aayanki. It was found out that Arjun travelled to Karipur airport in a car owned by Sajesh. Customs had stated in the court that Sajesh was benami of Arjun Aayanki.
