Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University would take strict action against the principal and students of the Christian College in Kattakada following the move to substitute the name of an elected councillor with that of an SFI leader.
The principal, GJ Shaiju, is directed to appear before the University Vice-Chancellor during the University Syndicate meeting on Saturday.
The SFI unit at Christian College, Kattakada, has been accused of including the name of an unelected individual on the list submitted for the university union councillors (UUCs) positions.
The incident came to light after college elections took place on December 22, 2022, and SFI panel members Anakha and Aromal emerged victorious for UUC posts. However, when the list was forwarded to Kerala University for the selection of university-level office-bearers, it is claimed that SFI replaced Anakha's name with that of another student, A Visakh, who is the area secretary of the Kattakkada SFI unit.
Following the controversy, Anakha tendered her resignation, and University postponed the elections to the university union council. The syndicate meeting on Saturday would consider releasing a fresh date to conduct the election.
At the same time, the Syndicate would seek an explanation from the principal regarding the controversy and would examine whether Anakha intentionally vacated her position.
