Anupama and Ajith
Thiruvananthapuram: SFI former leader Anupama S Chandran, who is searching for her baby taken away by her family, alleged that her parents had tried to terminate her pregnancy. As Anupama’s family did not accept her spouse Ajith, they tried to abort her pregnancy at private hospitals in Malappuram and Kayamkulam when she was 8 months pregnant.
Anupama said that her parents kept telling her to abort the baby claiming the foetal growth was abnormal. When she was 9 months pregnant, her parents beat her up. She agreed to sign the papers to hand over the baby fearing they would kill the baby. Anupama’s husband Ajith stated that they have threat from her father PS Jayachandran, a CPM local area committee member.
Anupama told Mathrubhumi that she has been searching for the baby since April this year and lodged complaints to different authorities including DGP. But the FIR was registered only after 6 months. The probe is not progressing since the Child Welfare Committee refused to disclose details of the baby who was adopted from there. Anupama’s father is yet to be interrogated.
