SFI activists stage protest against interim VC in KTU

Thiruvananthapuram: Students Federation of India (SFI) activists staged a protest against the appointment of Dr Ciza Thomas as interim vice-chancellor of Kerala Technical University (KTU). The activists tried to block Ciza Thomas from entering the Univesity campus on Thursday morning.

Earlier, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan dismissed the nominees suggested by the state government for the post of the interim Vice Chancellor of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. Later, he appointed Dr Ciza Thomas as the interim VC by irking the state government.

The need to find a new Vice-Chancellor became relevant after the Supreme Court had set aside the appointment of MS Rajasree as Vice-Chancellor of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

Currently, Dr Ciza Thomas is the senior joint director of the Directorate of Technical Education. She has been given additional charges as interim VC till further orders.

On Friday, Ciza Thomas arrived at the university to officially take charge of the VC's office. However, SFI, and later Kerala Gazetted Officers Association, protested in front of the varsity and blocked her entry to the university campus. However, with the help of the police, she managed to enter the university premised and assumed her office.
