Idukki murder: Youth Congress workers intended to kill Dheeraj, friends, say police in remand report

Kattappana: Police probing the murder of SFI activist Dheeraj Rajendran in Idukki college, in its remand report has said that the accused Youth Congress workers arrived at the place to kill Dheeraj and his friends.

According to the report, the accused first stabbed Abhijith and tried to flee from the location when Dheeraj blocked them. The accused then stabbed Dheeraj as well. The report was submitted before Kattappana first class magistrate.

Police arrested Youth Congress leaders Nikhil Paily and Jerin Joe. They were remanded till January 25.

Meanwhile, in the court, the key accused Paily claimed that he was innocent and he ran off from the scene as many students gathered to attack him. Similarly, co-accused Joe also claimed that he was innocent and he got to know about the stabbing only when the victim was rushed into a vehicle.

When the accused were produced in the court, many had gathered outside and marked their strong protest. The group rushed to the police vehicle and officials had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
