SFI activist in custody for stabbing student
Thiruvananthapuram: Police have taken a SFI activist under custody in connection with the conflict at the University College. The Cantonment police took Nemam native Ijab into custody on Saturday night. Besides the main accused in the case, Ijab is one among the 30 persons who were named in the accused list. Ijab is the committee member of the SFI University college unit.
Police are yet to nab the main accused, including Shivaranjith, who stabbed Akhil on the campus. There are reports that even after 2 days of the incident, the failure of the police in nabbing the accused may be due to external pressure.
The arrest of Ijab will be recorded soon and he will be produced before the court. He will be interrogated in detail today. Police said that many SFI leaders have gone underground immediately after the incident of stabbing. The key accused is still absconding and the statement of AKhil will be recorded on Sunday.
Akhil was pulled up by SFI activists for singing aloud on the campus. The altercation turned ugly and Akhil was stabbed on his chest. Students shouted slogans against the SFI college unit members.
