Thiruvananthapuram: The opposition leader V.D. Satheesan on Wednesday lashed out at the government and the ruling party CPM for ‘protecting’ minister A.K. Saseendran even after his alleged intervention to settle a sexual harassment issue came to light.
The charges against him are serious. If he is not resigning, Chief Minister must sack him from the post, Satheesan said. He also warned of protesting in the assembly.
The minister’s justification is illogical. He said he did not know it was a sexual harassment case. But anyone who listens to the audio tape can understand that the minister knew what the issue was, Satheesan said.
How can CPM run campaigns against harassment of women after letting Saseendran to continue in the cabinet, he asked.
A leaked telephone conversation of Minister for Forests AK Saseendran had come to light on Tuesday proving he had intervened to compromise a sexual harassment case against an NCP leader.
Saseendran spoke with the father of the woman, who raised the sexual harassment complaint, and asked him to cooperate to “end the issue amicably.”
