Kozhikode: The Medical College Police on Monday took a man into custody in connection with the sexual assault complaint lodged by a woman, who was admitted to the government hospital in Kozhikode. The accused has been identified as hospital attender Saseendran, a native of Vadakara.

As per police, the accused shall be arrested after recording his detailed statement. According to the complaint, the woman was sexually abused by the hospital staff after she underwent surgery in the intensive care unit.

Earlier, Health Minister Veena George had directed the medical education director to take immediate action over the complaint. Following this, the hospital authorities appointed a probe committee comprising additional superintendent, resident medical officer and nursing superintendent to investigate the case.
