Wayanad: The police have arrested all accused involved in the sexual assault on a woman at a homestay in Ambalavayal here. The key accused in the case Koyilandy natives Akhil Ravi and V K Rahul were also held. A total of 15 men have been arrested in connection with the case so far. The investigation was headed by Bathery DySP K K Abdul Shareef.

The incident leading up to the arrests took place on April 28 at a homestay in Ambalavayal. The nine-member gang barged into the homestay wearing masks at night, attacked the woman and threatened others present there.

Only women were at the homestay during the time of the attack. The gang threatened them with a knife and one of the women was gang-raped. A 24 member-team of police initiated a probe based on the complaint of the victim.

At first, the employees of the homestay were arrested. Following this, the arrests of middlemen and five other Koyilandy natives were recorded. Nine out of the gang are men hailing from Koyilandy. The police informed that these men have been involved in other serious crimes before as well.

The accused destroyed the CCTV before fleeing the crime scene in their rented car.
