Sexual abuse of four minor seminarians: Kollam court awards 18 years rigorous imprisonment to priest


Kollam: The Additional Sessions Court (POCSO) here on Friday awarded 18 years of rigorous imprisonment to a priest for sexually abusing four minor seminarians.

Judge K N Sujith found Fr Thomas Paraekullam guilty of the crime under the provisions of POCSO and pronounced the judgement. Fr Thomas was a former vicar of a church in Kottarakkara.

The crime pertaining to the case happened in 2016. The sexual abuse came to light after Child Welfare Committee in Thiruvananthapuram received a complaint.

Notably, during the probe, the accused priest escaped from custody. He was on the run and later was nabbed from Chennai.
