Thiruvananthapuram: Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Adv N Sunanda stated that there were lapses on the part of the police in preparing FIR in Kadakkavoor POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) case. She added that it was not right to give her name as the informer and that she did not want to respond on the case.
A woman was arrested in Kadakkavoor of Thiruvananthapuram on the basis of a complaint that she sexually abused her minor son. She was remanded by the court. The CWC chairperson has reacted against the police on this matter.
When the police prepared the FIR, Sunanda’s name was given as the informer. However, Sunanda denied this and said that she did not inform them in this regard. CWC never hands over such complaints to police and there are lapses on their part, she stated.
The police produced the child in front of CWC only for counselling after getting the complaint and the child was given counselling only. The CWC has not filed any complaint nor did it inform the police about the incident, Sunanda made it clear.
Soon after the child’s mother was arrested, her relatives formed an action council. They stated that the complaint was only made up by the woman’s husband due to family issues. But the child’s father was firm on the complaint.
