Thiruvananthapuram: Grave charges were slapped against Father Theodosius D’Cruz, convenor of the Vizhinjam port protest, for his controversial remarks against Minister V Abdurahiman. The FIR recorded that the Latin Catholic priest attempted to create a rift between Muslim and Christian communities in the state.
Father Theodosius D’Cruz had called Minister Abdurahiman a ‘traitor’ and even remarked that there is a “terrorist” in his name. The priest was retaliating against the minister’s allegations that the protesters camped at Vizhinjam are committing “treason” by impeding the construction works of the port.
However, the priest had later withdrawn his comments and apologised for his remarks as it could cause a division among the communities when it is time for the minorities to work hand in hand.
Several LDF leaders had raised protests against the remarks of the priest. Vizhinjam police registered a case against Father Theodosius D’Cruz on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, two cases were registered against Latin Archdiocese Archbishop in view of violating the High Court order, which granted legal protection for the port construction.
