Thiruvananthapuram: Minister of Public Works Department PA Mohamed Riyas stated that many factors, including the climatic conditions, are responsible for the deplorable condition of many roads in Kerala. He informed that the department is preparing new projects to improve the standard of roads and a considerable number of roads have already been developed in the state. The Minister informed the Legislative Assembly that he is attempting to bring out a combined effort of various departments for this.

He asserted that the government aims to eliminate the menace of potholes on the roads and added that other departments are cooperating on this in each district. Fifty per cent of the roads in Kerala will be built using Bituminous Macadam Bituminous Concrete (BMBC) within the next four years.

The opposition had moved an adjournment motion in the assembly alleging lapses of government in completing the repair works of roads on time. The notice was handed over by Eldose P Kunnappally. However, the Minister said that many of the opposition members themselves might have discordance with this motion moved by Congress.
