Palakkad: Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University has decided to look into allegations against PhD scholar K Vidya, who stands accused of forging documents to secure a position as a guest lecturer. The legal standing committee of the university syndicate will examine the matters concerned.

A purported report mentioning the university SC/ST cell findings about Vidya's PhD admission found that the reservation roster was subverted during her admission. The report also highlights the intervention of the vice-chancellor's office in the matter. Vidya had filed a petition in the Kerala High Court regarding the admission process. Upon seeking information from the university under the Right to Information Act, Vidya received a prompt response on the same day. This expedited response was a result of interference from the vice-chancellor's office. On the other hand, the university took 20 days to respond to a similar application submitted by a student named Dinu, as noted in the report.

The university's move comes in this context. Interestingly, the move also comes as a U-turn on the university's stand. The university reportedly had been dismissing the allegations. Many say the move is a damage control measure as more allegations against Vidya are in the limelight. Vidya’s research guide Dr Bichu X Malayil the other day decided to step back from the academic association with the former. Malayil decided not to guide Vidya until the latter prove her innocence. She said that, if she continues guiding, then “it will send a wrong message” as Vidya is accused of violating mandates.

The report related to PhD came to light after a Maharaja’s College principal filed a police complaint against Vidya. According to the complaint, Vidya forged an experience certificate in the name of the college. Vidya was a college union member and SFI leader at Maharaja’s College and Sanskrit University. It was in 2020 that she enrolled for PhD at Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University.
