Thiruvananthapuram: 'Set lottery', a new sales strategy of lottery agents by selling more than one ticket with the same number belonging to different series, is illegal, said lottery minister KN Balagopal.

This restricts the number of winners for smaller gifts of the lottery, he said. Minister said that the department will initiate measures to prevent the 'set sales'. He was inaugurating the newly introduced 'Fifty-fifty' lottery of the department here.

The first prize of '50-50' lottery, which is sold for Rs 50, is Rs 1 cr. As many as 23 customers will get the prize of Rs 5,000 (for other lotteries, it is only for 18 people). With this, total number of winners will touch the 3 lakh mark.

The minister added that awareness classes will be organised for winners who spend the amount in a very lavish way.

Lottery director Abraham Ren said that the agents will get a commission of more than Re 1 though the new lottery.
