Seriously ill passenger dies after being forced to alight from bus: Case booked against bus employee
Muvattupuzha: Police have booked a case against the staff of a bus who forced an ill passenger alight from the bus. The passenger A E Xavier from Vannapuram, who was seriously ill, died and the incident happened on Wednesday noon.
The patient who boarded the bus from Vannapuram to Muvattupuzha collapsed and fell unconscious after the bus began its journey. The passenger had frothed at the mouth and none of the passengers came forward to offer help. Though a hospital was situated within a kilometre, the bus continued its journey for about 5 kms. The employees of the bus put the ill passenger in an auto and left.
The auto driver took Xavier to the hospital with the help of his friends. A case was booked on a complaint which stated that the employees of the bus named Sreelakshmi did not even provide first aid to the ill patient. A case was booked based on the complaint.
The police who hesitated to act on the complaint in the initial stage later began a probe when protests by local people mounted.
