Thiruvananthapuram: Former DGP T P Senkumar said that the police leadership is responsible for everything related to the police. He was responding to the incident in which ADGP Sudhesh Kumar was removed as head of the battalion after a complaint arose that his daughter manhandled the police driver and made policemen work as servants.
He said that the problems arise as policemen from other states do not cope up with the situations here. Our culture and customs are different from many other states. Many states maintain a feudal nature. People who belong to such places may feel a cultural shock when they arrive in Kerala. Because, Kerala treats everyone as equal. Some officers may behave as opposed to this system which result in troubles, Senkumar said.
He also said that he had given clear directions in this regard when he was the police chief. But it did not turn out to be a system. Nothing happens when only one person acts against it. Instead of taking action when such incidents take place, it should be developed into a system, he said.
The police chiefs should take stringent action in issues like making policemen servants of higher authorities. These issues can be eliminated only if they stay alert all time. The higher officials have to ensure that these matters also are maintained properly just as the police act is followed strictly, Senkumar said.
