Satheesan Pacheni
Kannur: Senior Congress leader Satheesan Pacheni passed away.
He was 54. Pacheni was admitted to a private hospital here due to stroke on October 16.
He has served as general secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and state president of KSU.
Despite being an active figure in politics and DCC president in Kannur, Pacheni never got elected into a public office. He has contested five times to the Legislative Assembly and once to the Lok Sabha, but often lost by narrow margins.
In 2001, he lost to VS Achuthanandhan in Malampuzha for 4,703 votes. He again contested against VS in the 2006 election. In 2009, he contested against MB Rajesh in Palakkad, a CPM stronghold, and lost by just over 1,800 votes.
He unsuccessfully contested to Kerala assembly in 1996 from Taliparamba, and 2016 from Kannur.
