Self-financing row: VS says media misinterpreted his words
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM leader V S Achuthanandan termed ‘groundless’ the reports carried by media as his opinion regarding the row over admission to self-financing medical colleges.
“In fact, my response was about the SBI-SBT merger and the media misinterpreted it,” he said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, VS had said that the government should take initiatives to resolve the indefinite strike launched by UDF MLAs near the entrance of Assembly. Recently, he had visited the fasting MLAs too.
The comment had caught the party as well as the government on back foot. In no time, the UDF leaders come out stressing VS’ words.
Reacting to this, minister E P Jayarajan had stated that one who understands the matters about self-financing admission would not respond on it in such a manner. But, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declined to comment.
Against this backdrop, the veteran leader issued the release.
“Media persons posed the questions while I was returning after inaugurating the protest against SBI-SBT merger. I replied that the reason for the protest is reasonable and steps on war footing are needed to resolve it” VS adds in the statement.
