Seizure of 500 kg stale meat from EKM: Accused arrested, aide under scanner

Ernakulam: Police arrested the accused who went absconding in the case pertaining to seizure of 500 kg stale poultry meat from a house in Kalamassery here. The arrested is Junaise, a native of Malappuram.

According to the case, the accused stored stale meat meant for sale in freezers at his rented house in Kaipadamugal near the HMT junction.

The accused was nabbed from Ponnani on Monday night. He was on the run since reports on the stale meat seizure by food and safety officials emerged on January 12. Tracking based on mobile network activity and inputs given by locals turned crucial in locating the person.

The preliminary assumption is that the stale meat, known by the code name ‘Tsunami chicken’, was transported from Tamil Nadu.

According to police officials, Junaise has an aide who acts as a middleman in getting stale meat from regions like Pollachi. They are looking at the call records and bank records of the accused to find his accomplice.
