Kollam: State Police will take necessary steps within 24 hours to provide security to the victims of sexual assault and POCSO cases. The move from state police came in the backdrop of an order issued by the Kerala High Court demanding effective action on such incidents.

A 'victim liaison officer' will be assigned within 24 hours of receiving a complaint through the Police Control Room or Police Station. The officer must contact the victim and ensure protection. Currently, a VLO is appointed within 48 hours after receiving a complaint and a case registered.

VLO is also tasked to collect evidence from the crime scene, take a statement from the victim's family and ensure effective investigation into the case.
