Thrissur: The security documents of President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to Kerala on Tuesday was leaked. The 208-page document titled ‘Secret’ prepared by the police is being spread through WhatsApp. The document contains all the details of the President’s visit and the sketch of the travel route as well.
The document was leaked after the security measures in connection with the visit was completed. It started spreading through WhatsApp since Monday morning. However, the police said that the document is provided to all officers on duty and it poses no threat to security.
The file describes the duty of the officers including Commissioner Yathish Chandra. It contains details like the number of policemen on duty at each place, possible threats to the President and structure of the President’s convoy. It is indicated that the BJP is moving to file a complaint in this regard.
It is suspected that the document was leaked from WhatsApp group of police. Screenshots of the document being spread through groups also are widely spread. The police said that it was officially passed to about 3000 persons and they used WhatsApp for this for convenience.
Former DGP Jacob Punnoose said that leaking of security documents of the President is serious offence. How serious is the issue would depend on the recipient's address. If it posted in WhatsApp groups of Police, it is a wrong action. A document titled secret should never be published.
