Security beefed-up for strong rooms storing EVMs; protest in Ambalapuzha ends
Alappuzha: Security has been increased for the strong room where electronic voting machines are stored. The doors and windows of the room were closed and sealed on Wednesday. Following this the protest staged by UDF candidate in Ambalappuzha, M Liju, at the strong room in St Joseph school, ended.
Liju began the sit-in protest alleging inadequate security to the strong room.
189 EVMs have been stored in 4 rooms of the school. Following the protest, the officials decided to completely follow the guidelines in storing EVMs.
Liju had alleged that the election observer was not willing to seal off the rooms with wooden plank across the door. LDF also expressed suspicion on this. The returning officer had said that a decision will be taken after the meeting with political parties on Thursday.
However, as the protests intensified, the security was immediately tightened.
