Kozhikode: The CPM state secretariat will convene a meeting on Wednesday morning to allocate the portfolios of the ministers in the second term of Pinarayi Vijayan. The departments of CPM ministers will be decided first and later the portfolios of allied parties.
The portfolios that have to be given to Kerala Congress (M), Janadhipathya Kerala Congress and INL must be identified. As Kadannapally Ramachandran does not figure in the first term of the Cabinet-seat sharing pact, the ports department handled by him will be added to the common pool.
The CPI will continue to have the departments of Revenue, Agriculture and Civil Supplies. They are hesitant to leave the Forest department but instead want the Registration portfolio. A final decision on this will be taken today. All eyes are on the health portfolio which was held by K K Shailaja. All are anxious to know who would be offered this department.
Roshy Augustine would be offered one of the departments of Water Resources, Power or Public Works as his party is the third largest party in the Front. The portfolios for NCP and JDS may also be changed. Antony Raju may get Fisheries.
CPM will keep in its fold the popular ministries like Finance, Local Administration, Industries, Health and Education. K N Balagopal may be given Finance in all probability. Central committee members M V Govindan, K Radhakrishnan and secretariat member P Rajeev would be offered important portfolios. They might be offered any one of the department of local self-government, industries, law, public works, power. As K Radhakrishnan has experience in parliamentary affairs, he might be offered this. Saji Cherian will get one of the important departments.
Education may go to R Bindu and Veena George may get Health. Excise for V N Vasavan and V Sivankutty may get Devaswom and also an additional department of cooperation or labour. Tourism, sports, youth affairs may be offered to Mohammed Riyas.
K Rajan of the CPI may be given Revenue, P Prasad Agriculture and G R Anil civil supplies and Chinju Rani may get Animal Husbandry department or Housing.
