Munnar: A first mahout was stabbed to death by a second mahout in Korandikadu elephant safari centre in Munnar. The incident took place at 7.30 am near Mattupetty road on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Vimal (31), a native of Thrissur. The police have arrested accused Manikantan (29), a native of Kudappally, Thrissur. Apparently, an argument over taking care of the elephant ‘Julie’ led to the murder.

Manikantan had told Vimal about Julie trying to attack him two days back. However, Vimal accused Manikantan of not taking good care of the jumbo and said that was the reason why she tried to attack him.

Soon after, the argument intensified and Manikantan stabbed Vimal on his neck using a knife. Vimal ran and collapsed before the elephant centre.

Following this, the centre employees rushed him to Kannan Devan General Hospital but he could not be saved. Manikantan, who was hiding in the office room, was detained and handed over to the police by locals.
