Kozhikode: Alleging mystery over the incident in which a scissor was left behind inside the stomach of woman post caesarean, KK Harsheena, the complainant, has decided to undergo a hunger strike demanding justice.

Harsheena, wife of Adivaram native Ashraf, said that she will begin the strike on February 27 in front of Kozhikode Medical College. The surgery pertaining to the incident took place in 2017.

The director of medical education has apparently submitted a report prepared by an expert committee, on the basis of the forensic examination results, to the health minister’s office.

However, Harsheena alleged that the reports have not yet reached the minister’s office and it is being deliberately delayed to protect the medical college employees.

“A complaint was lodged with the Legal Services Authority in January and I have been directed to appear for a sitting on March 6. Hospital superintendent and the concerned doctor have also been issued notices,” said the woman.

“Meanwhile, I lodged a complaint with PTA Rahim MLA but did not receive a favourable response,” she added.

The complainant, who underwent surgery at the Kozhikode Medical College on November 30, 2017, later found that a scissor was left inside her stomach. It was removed through another surgery last year.

The health department has been conducting a probe into the incident for the past five months. Following this, an expert committee was formulated to investigate the matter.

However, Harsheena explained that she decided to go on a hunger strike as she was fed up with all the promises and wanted justice.
