Govt Medical College, Kozhikode
Kozhikode: The evidence collected during the probe of a complaint lodged against Kozhikode Government Medical College for allegedly leaving a pair of scissors inside the complainant’s stomach during a caesarean section, will be handed over to the Home department for conducting scientific tests under the Forensic department.
Minister for Health Veena George has entrusted an expert panel to launch a detailed probe and submit a report based on the complaint. The panel comprises doctors in the surgery and gynaecology departments in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur Medical Colleges. The investigation under the expert panel is currently progressing.
The minister had directed the additional chief secretary of the health department to investigate and submit a report soon after the complaint was lodged. However, the complainant alleged that the report is unsatisfactory. An expert panel has been formed following this.
The scissors in the stomach of Pantheerankavu native Harshina was spotted during a surgery conducted at the Mother and Child Care Centre in the Medical College on September 17, 2022. The scissors were found near the urinary bladder when she took a CT scan for urinary infection. Before this, she had undergone a caesarean section during her third delivery at Govt Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode in 2017.
