Thiruvananthapuram: General Education Minister V Sivankutty has instructed the schools to avoid night journeys during excursions. The minister ordered that all schools in the state must follow the instructions related to the tour issued by the department. The minister has given the instructions following the tragic bus accident in Palakkad's Vadakkencherry which claimed the lives of 9 people including four children.
As per the directive, the schools must avoid trips from 9 pm to 6 am.
Earlier, the general education department instructed the schools to only hire vehicles of the tour operators approved by the Kerala tourism department.
The General education Department has given comprehensive directions regarding this in its order issued on March 2, 2020. As per this order, the head of the institution must bear complete responsibility for all the trips.
Study tours must be connected with the curriculum. The headmaster/headmistress must have complete information on the tour. The students must have good awareness of the tour before starting the trip. Dangerous places should not be visited during the excursion. Use of drugs by teachers, vehicle workers and students is also strictly banned, reads the order.
The minister added that the school authority must follow the directions of the Motor Vehicle Department regarding the vehicle.
