Thiruvananthapuram: An analysis conducted by the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has found inaccuracies in the Aadhaar details of more than two lakh school students in the state.
As per the findings, the Aadhaar cards of 1.25 lakh students are invalid and that of 79,000 others lack unique identity numbers (UID). There is duplication of the Aadhaar records of more than 8,000 children, stated a RTI report sought by ‘Mathrubhumi’.
However, the official explanation stated that the details and inaccuracies in Aadhaar documents were examined ahead of the staff fixation in schools.
Apparently, the details of a total of 33,44,858 students were examined for the staff fixation. Of which, the Aadhaar cards of 31.51 lakh students (94.22 per cent) were valid.
Whereas, the UID of 79,291 students (2.37 per cent) were not recorded and the Aadhaar of 1,13,959 students (3.41 per cent) were found to be invalid. Also, there are 1,93,250 students (an average of 1,186 students in every sub district) who does not have Aadhaar cards.
In case of the details of 2599 students, 80-89 per cent, including date of birth, gender, name, name of parents, were either partially or fully similar in nature.
Findings | Figures |
Invalid Aadhaar | 1,13,959 |
Cards without UID | 79,721 |
Duplication in Aadhaar | 8068 |
Inaccuracy in records | 2,01,748 |
As Aadhaar enrollment in Kerala is almost complete, one cannot assume that such a large number of students would not have Aadhaar cards in the state. Moreover, a special scheme was also implemented through Akshaya centres in this regard.
The invalidity of Aadhaar may be due to mismatch or inaccuracy of information uploaded in the portal. However, there were options to rectify the errors. KITE had earlier demanded a school-level inspection into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Aadhaar details of children in unaided schools are not available. Hence, manipulation in figures can be analysed only after the data of government and aided schools are compared with that of unaided ones.
