School reopening ceremony in state to follow green protocol
Kothamangalam: The school reopening ceremony this year will follow green protocol by eliminating plastic products. Different varieties of programmes have been arranged in schools to welcome kids to Class 1. The plastic garland will be replaced with real flower, leaves and berries.
Kottappadi Government North LP School will welcome the new students giving them badges made with jackfruit leaves. Children will be welcome to the class wearing paper caps and pinning the jackfruit leaf badge on to their dress.
The school authorities said that the new way of welcome is to honor jackfruit which declared as the official fruit of the state. They have beautifully written the names of each child on raw jackfruit leaves and tied with a thread.
A letter wall also has been arranged for the new comers.The children can write letters or words on the wall that is made by sticking a white chart paper on a wooden screen. The letter written on the wall on the first day of school will become a nostalgia later.
The uniforms in the government schools also are different this year. Handloom fabric is mandatory for uniforms for students from Class 1 to 7. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has arranged special uniform codes for all government and aided schools in the state. Handloom fabrics in different colors and patterns have already been brought to the schools.
The uniforms for aided schools are distributed directly by the government and for the government schools by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The new uniforms are designed in order to inculcate the tradition among kids and to protect the handloom industry.
Midday meals are also arranged from the first day of reopening. Three different dishes will be given with midday meal this year. Nutritious food like milk will be distributed on two days in a week and egg on one day.
Cooking gas and stove have been arranged in all schools in the state to avoid smoke menace and exploitation of nature. There are systems to monitor and ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen as well as cooking staff.
