Alappuzha: On the second day of the 59th State School Arts Festival, Palakkad and Kozhikode shared the top place in the points table. Both districts have 723 points each.
Kannur is just behind in the second place with 708 points. With two points less, Thrissur has secured the third place with 706 points. Malappuram earned 696 points to reach at the fourth position in the table.
The points bagged by Ernakulam (692), Alappuzha (686), Kollam (673), Kottayam (665), Thiruvananthapuram (661), Wayanad (648), Kasaragod (645), Pathanamthitta (607) and Idukki (561).
On the second day of the festival also has witnessed a tension between organizers and contestants during the koodiyattam event. The issues started over the inclusion of a teacher of a participating team to the judging panel of the Koodiyattam event. The students, in their make-ups protested against the judging panel. As they noticed no progress in the issue in favour of the contestants, students took the protest to the roads. After hours of tension at the State School Arts Festival in Alappuzha on Saturday, the protest staged by the contestants turned successful. Their demand to make a change in the judging panel of the Koodiyattom event of Girls’ Koodiyattom competition was accepted. The authorities informed that the event will be held on Sunday with a changed judging panel.
The day also witnessed protests against the inclusion of teacher-writer Deepa Nisanth, who was recently involved in a poetry plagiarism row, in the judging panel of off-stage events. The police have taken nine persons into custody in connection with the incident. Later, she completed the evaluation under police protection and returned.
