New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs BJP’s lone union minister from Kerala V Muraleedharan on Monday took to Facebook to comment on Supreme Court’s verdict on 2016 demonetisation. According to Muraleedharan, the verdict is a big blow to those who witch-hunted Modi over demonetisation.

“The verdict in the new year is yet another feather on the hat of a national head with a stand and willpower,” he noted in his post.

He added that the court underscored the country’s stand against black money, terrorism, and fake notes.

“The court made it crystal clear that the Narendra Modi regime aimed at national good through the crucial decision,” he pointed out.

Earlier today, the apex court upheld the government's 2016 decision to demonetise the currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denominations. A five-judge Constitution bench of the apex court said that the Centre's decision-making process could not have been flawed as there was consultation between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Union government. However, Justice Nagarathna differed from the majority judgment on the point of the Centre's powers under section 26(2) of the RBI Act.

On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currencies.
