SC/ST reservation: Assembly session to be convened urgently; cabinet meet today
Thiruvananthapuram: An assembly session will be called urgently for legislating a law regarding reservation of scheduled castes and tribes (SC/ST). The government plans to convene the session before the new year. An emergency cabinet meeting will be convened on Sunday at 3 in the evening to take a decision on this.
The assembly session is convened urgently in order to make a law extending the reservation of SC/ST categories. The central government had decided to extend SC/ST reservation for ten more years. But this requires approval of the state government. The Centre has directed to take a decision in the matter before January 10.
Considering this situation, the state is convening an urgent assembly session. Also a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be presented at the session.
