SC rejects plea against Karuna, Kannur med colleges
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the petition filed by the Kerala government seeking to cancel permission given by the Kerala High Court to Kannur and Karuna medical colleges to charge huge fees for admissions.
Dismissing the petition, the Supreme Court pointed out that nothing can be done now as admissions will end this evening. The court let the High Court take a decision on fees dispute.
The High Court had allowed Kannur and Karuna medical colleges to levy an annual fees of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 7.45 lakh respectively.
The James Committee had allowed both colleges to levy a fee of Rs 4.40 lakh. The government demand was that the admissions should be conducted as per the James Committee guidelines and fees prescribed by the committee.
