New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday said it hopes the ongoing trial in the 2017 actress attack case will be completed on time. It was considering a report filed by the trial court judge on the progress.

Earlier, the apex court allowed the prosecutors to re-examine witnesses, including Manju Warrier, in the case. The prosecution requested Manju Warrier’s re-examination to prove the authenticity of the digital evidence against accused Dileep in the case. Dileep opposed it saying it would further delay the trial.

The bench chaired by justice JK Maheshwari also urged the trial court to wind up the trial soon and demanded the progress report by March 24. Adhering to this order, the trial court judge submitted a report before the Supreme Court.

The next hearing on Dileep's petition for speedy trial is in May.
