SC flays Kerala Govt decision to open shops in D category
Thiruvananthapuram: The apex court criticised the state government’s decision to open shops in the wake of Bakrid festival. The Supreme Court was considering a petition seeking to cancel the relaxations given in view of the festival.
However, the court hasn’t quashed the government decision stating that it is too late to do it. The court observed that the state government was not supposed to be influenced during this pandemic period and the decision to open shops in D-category was a serious mistake.
However, the state government was of the opinion that the decision to ease restrictions was taken after discussing with experts.
Justices Rohinton Nariman and P R Gavai reminded the government that priority must be given for 'right to live' over religious functions. It was also termed that the court cannot accept such a decision under the influence of traders or anybody.
