New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by Saritha Nair seeking to cancel the victory of Hibi Eden MP from Ernakulam in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Saritha had also submitted her nomination papers to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Ernakulam constituency. However, as she was convicted in a criminal case for more than two years, the returning officer rejected the nomination. Saritha had approached the Kerala High Court challenging this decision but the HC dismissed her petition. Following this, she approached the Supreme Court. On Wednesday, the SC dismissed her petition.

Earlier, Saritha had approached the apex court challenging Rahul Gandhi’s victory from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. However, a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) S. A. Bobde had rejected the petition.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the returning officers had rejected Saritha Nair’s nomination papers filed in Wayanad and Ernakulam constituencies. But her nomination was accepted in Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, from where she contested.
