New Delhi: Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea challenging the reservation to the Kerala Administrative Service.

The petitioners alleged that the contestants who are already in service are availing dual reservations when they join KAS. However, the court observed that the recruitment is to a fresh position and the issue of dual reservation does not appear in this case.

The bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli noted that service applicants and others appear for test and interview to enter KAS. Hence it is a fresh recruitment and not a continuation of the existing service to the government officials who appear for it. It cannot be seen as them availing reservation twice, it noted while dismissing the plea of Samastha Nair Samajam and some applicants.
