SC asks Kerala to file reply on the petition against 3 days Covid restrictions

New delhi: SC asked Kerala Government to file reply today on application against three-days relaxation in Covid restrictions in view of Bakrid festivals. Also scheduled the further hearings to Tuesday.

A plea had been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the government’s act by a Keralite PKD Nambiar who resides in Delhi.

A bench presiding Justice Rohinton Nariman considered the petition on Monday. Senior advocate Vikas Singh appeared for Nambiar in the court. Prime Minister had already expressed his apprehensions on the increasing number of Covid cases in Kerala and Maharashtra. The petition indicts the government for neglecting the lives of the people when a situation similar to health emergency exist.

Last week, a bench presiding Justice Rohinton Nariman had observed that the rights of people to live is more significant than any religious rituals. The Supreme Court had taken suo moto cognizance against the annual pilgrimage Kanwar yatra in Uttar Pradesh.
