Trikarpur: The news of VP Muhammadali's death left the Kerala camp saddened minutes after the team reached the final round of the Santosh Trophy tournament.
VP Mohammadali is the father of Riswanali Edakkavil, who plays in the midfield of the Kerala team.
Rizwanali lost his father while playing for Kerala on Sunday in a crucial match at the Kozhikode Corporation Stadium. The sad news came to him only after the match.
His dream of returning to his father after winning the Santosh trophy was unfulfilled.
After hearing the news of his death, he rushed home with his teammate M Rashid, a native of Trikarpur, to see his father for the last time. Rizwan has scored three goals and made three assists so far this season. It includes the assist against Mizoram in Sunday's game.
Rizwan, who bagged the trophy for the best player in the All India University Games, has also played in the B Division league of UEFA for UAE club Hilal United, I League team Chennai City FC, and Kerala United FC.
