Thiruvananthapuram: Sandeep, the accused in Dr Vandana Das' murder case, has been examined by a doctor from the Peroorkada mental health centre. The doctor confirmed that Sandeep has no mental health issues, said police sources.
Sandeep, however, stated to the jail superintendent that he attacked the male doctor administering his medication as he believed the doctor was trying to harm him. Sandeep had initially shown unusual behaviour upon arrival at Poojappura Jail, but had since calmed down.

The examination was conducted in the presence of Jail Superintendent Satyadas, and revealed no conflicting speech or paranoia. Hence, there is no need for transfer from prison to hospital. Sandeep admitted to buying drugs from migrant workers who worked in his house. He answered questions without much emotion, the source stated.
Sandeep had called the police when he felt locals were following him, but switched off his mobile phone and hid when police arrived. He later called them again, but upon being taken to the hospital for examination, he felt threatened and planned to attack the male doctor. He said he remembers stabbing Dr Vandana, according to the source. The police will file a custody application for Sandeep as he has regained consciousness.
